Ride Engine RE_X Wetsuits
Cold water performance starts with the details.
Cold water changes what you need from your equipment. Every reach, paddle stroke, and duck dive asks your wetsuit to stretch while holding warmth close. The Ride Engine RE_X line brings premium materials, engineered fit, and sealed construction together to keep you comfortable and moving naturally when the forecast turns cold.
RE_X wetsuits balance warmth with the mobility demands from wingfoiling to kiteboarding and those surf sessions in between. Understanding how those details work makes it easier to choose the right suit and keep it performing.
Built for Cold Water
Performance Is in the Details
Premium Neoprene With Lasting Stretch
The foundation is premium Japanese limestone-based carbon black neoprene, selected for its high elasticity, insulation, and shape retention. Stretch lets the material follow your movement; memory helps it return to shape afterward. Together, these qualities support a consistent fit through repeated use.
Texture_X external lamination works with that flexible neoprene. Its stretch and durability help the suit move naturally through overhead reaches, torso rotation, and deep knee bends.
That freedom becomes especially valuable in thicker cold-water suits, where material choice and panel design influence how much resistance you feel.
Thermal Lock Warmth Where It Matters
Inside, recycled liners and strategically placed Thermal Lock fleece support warmth and comfort. Positioned through the core, Thermal Lock uses a channel knit construction to retain essential body heat without unnecessary bulk.
Its soft, moisture-managing surface feels comfortable against the skin and dries quickly between sessions.
Targeting insulation through the core preserves flexibility elsewhere. You get warmth where it matters while maintaining the movement needed to paddle out, handle a wing, or execute a maneuver.
A Precise Fit Starts With the Pattern
RE_X uses 3D Body CAD engineering to shape panels and position seams around the body. The goal is a close, anatomical fit that follows movement and limits unnecessary material.
The men’s and women’s lines share the same performance materials and construction; women’s suits use women’s-specific 3D CAD body mapping to develop the pattern.
Fit is part of thermal performance. A suit should feel snug and even against the body, with no large pockets at the lower back, underarms, or crotch. You should still be able to breathe fully, reach overhead, and bend comfortably.
Eco Strong Kneepads for Durability and Control
Made with 100% recycled material and applied through a unique printing process, Eco Strong kneepads add durability in a high-wear area while preserving flexibility.
Their textured surface provides grip where your knees contact the board, helping maintain control when transitioning from kneeling to standing or driving the board beneath the surface during a duck dive.
The result is dependable reinforcement that supports natural movement and protects against repeated board contact.
Sealed Seams Help Hold Warmth In
Glued and blind-stitched construction helps minimize water entry through panel joins. Blind stitching avoids passing completely through the neoprene, reducing potential leakage paths.
Full internal seam taping adds reinforcement and further limits water intrusion while supporting a comfortable interior finish.
Reducing the exchange of warmed water for fresh cold water helps maintain comfort throughout a session. Ankle drain ports let trapped water escape, helping reduce buildup around the lower legs.
Why Front Zip Entry Matters
Every RE_X full suit uses a front zip, also called chest zip, entry. Placing the zipper across the upper chest keeps a long zipper away from the spine, leaving the back panel free to stretch as you paddle, bend, and rotate.
That freedom complements the neoprene and Body CAD paneling.
A compact chest entry can also help limit flushing when it fits correctly and is properly closed. Managing sudden water exchange is especially useful during duck dives, crashes, body dragging, and repeated immersion.
The zipper is within reach at the front, making it easier to check the closure before heading out.
The smaller entry opening takes a little technique. Fully open the entry, work the suit up gradually from the ankles, and seat the hips and torso before bringing the upper section into position.
Use the pads of your fingers and distribute tension across the material. Never pull yourself into the suit by the zipper or stretch the neck opening aggressively.
Choose Your RE_X Thickness
Match insulation to the water you spend time in. The 3/2 favors lightweight flexibility in cooler full-suit conditions. The 4/3 adds warmth for seasonal transitions.
The 5/4/3 increases insulation for colder water, with an integrated hood option for additional head and neck coverage.
| RE_X Chest Zip Full Suit | Water Temperature | Celsius |
|---|---|---|
| 3/2 | 57°F to 64°F | 14°C to 18°C |
| 4/3 | 50°F to 57°F | 10°C to 14°C |
| 5/4/3 | 43°F to 50°F | 6°C to 10°C |
| 5/4/3 Hooded | Below 43°F to 50°F | Below 6°C to 10°C |
These water temperature ranges are a starting point. Air temperature, wind, session length, activity level, personal cold tolerance, and fit all influence comfort. Always choose suitable boots, gloves, and head protection for your conditions.
Care That Protects Performance
The materials, lining, and seams work together. A consistent care routine helps preserve their flexibility and condition, while keeping your wetsuit comfortable for the next session.
Follow the care label supplied with your suit.
01 / Rinse After Every Session
Rinse the suit inside and out with cool fresh water, paying attention to the chest zipper, cuffs, and seam areas. Wash away salt, sand, and debris before they accumulate. For persistent odors, use a cleaner formulated for neoprene according to its instructions, then rinse thoroughly.
02 / Dry in Shade With Good Airflow
Turn the suit inside out to dry the lining first, then turn it back to finish drying the exterior. Drape it at the waist over a broad, smooth support to distribute the wet weight. Avoid suspending a wet suit from its neck or a narrow shoulder hanger. Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from heaters, hot water, and clothes dryers.
03 / Protect the Entry and Zipper
Rinse sand and salt from the zipper before operating it. Keep lining material clear of the teeth, align the closure carefully, and move the slider smoothly along its intended path. If it catches, stop and clear the obstruction. Pulling harder can damage the zipper or surrounding material.
04 / Change Carefully and Store Dry
Use a changing mat to keep the suit off rough, possibly oil-contaminated ground. Ease each section off gradually, avoiding fingernail pressure, hard tugs, or standing on the legs to pull your feet free. Never machine wash, bleach, iron, or dry clean the suit.
Let both sides dry completely before storing it in a cool, ventilated place, away from sunlight and heat. Avoid tight folds, heavy compression, or leaving it wet in a gear bag.
05 / Check Small Issues Early
Look over the seams, entry, cuffs, and high-wear areas regularly. If you notice damaged neoprene, lifting seam tape, or a zipper problem, contact Ride Engine or your retailer for repair guidance before the damage spreads.
